Get to know vic canfield.

Vic Canfield is the facilities manager at Mother of God. He oversees the following:
  • HVAC and other mechanical systems. In his previous career, Vic was a licensed journeyman HVAC mechanic for 30 years. He applies this gift to keeping Mother of God’s systems in good working order.
  • Historic preservation of the campus. Vic served on Covington’s Urban Design Review (Preservation) Board for 37 years, the last 25 as chair. He was also part of the original group of urban pioneers (many of whom were Mother of God parishioners) who purchased a dozen properties on Covington Avenue and began historic homeowner restorations of the area that subsequently became known as the Mutter Gottes National Historic District. He also served as volunteer co-chair of the award-winning restoration of the church after the $1.5 million fire of 1986 ($4.2 million in 2023 dollars). Vic is pleased to use these gifts in overseeing the many preservation projects at Mother of God.
  • History tours, archivist, and historian. Vic proudly gives many MOG tours to more than a thousand visitors annually. He was co-author of Cradle of the Arts: Mother of God Catholic Church, Covington, Kentucky (2016), as well as co-producer of the documentary Mother of God Church (free streaming at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opNJ_hHu9Ho).
  • Weekday sacristan and other duties. You can see Vic most Sundays at the 9:30 am Mass where he ushers and wears his signature bowtie. Feel free to contact him at the church’s telephone number (859-291-2288) or via email.
