with one heart—growing our faith

Ed. note: This is the second article in our With One Heart series that explains each of our three parish priorities and goals.

The second priority of Mother of God's Pastoral Strategic Plan addresses the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus. Bishop Iffert, through a variety of different mediums, has illustrated the necessity of involving Jesus in our lives, and this has become a cornerstone of our priority plan. Scripture tells us in the Gospel of Matthew, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” (Matthew 28: 19-20).

The team is trying to put that into action, and we need your help!

We have two goals:
  • To have at least 75% of parishioners engaging in one faith formation activity outside of weekly Mass in the next year. Fr. Mike presents wonderful talks, the Young Adult group hosts bible study, and the diocese offers countless retreats, continuing education credits, and so many other learning opportunities. However, at Mother of God, we want to provide a complete faith formation program for all members, young and old alike. From bringing back Parish on the Same Page to creating new programs for families and for young children, we want all people to find something to inspire and grow their faith.
  • To have 90% of parishioners indicate that they are growing in their personal relationships with Jesus in the next year. This is a little more difficult, as it is such a deeply intimate question regarding how you feel regarding your relationship with Jesus. We hope to support individuals on their journey of faith, whether it be through offering the Mass reading books, providing Formed access in the bulletin and on our website, to establishing small groups, we want to be an active place of support for all members of Mother of God and the diocese of Covington.

We are all called to discipleship. We are all called to walk with each other on this journey of faith. We cannot do this without each other, and this project we are endeavoring is big! We need your help! If you have suggestions for how we can accomplish these goals or if you would like to be a part of the larger team, please contact Marilyn Schleyer or Bridget Kaiser Munday.
